I am a person that normally is satisfied with the little things, I do not need many people to have fun, believe me 2 or 3 mates are enough to make a day in the mountains memorable. However this morning I decided to venturing in solitary to reach one of my favourite places, Cantinaccio group in the val of Fassa.

I park my car in the uphill installations Vajolet 1- Vajolet 2 and I head with a good gait up to Pian Pecei where a wonderful pasture of cows welcomes me dancing in the meadows with their resonant cowbells.

In an era where you try to reach the peak with the most difficult route band you compete to make elevation gain in the shortest time I decided to go counter-current . I do not care If I get there first or overstep my limits to prove something to someone. I want to amaze every time that I come to these places and I want to live the mountain the way I like, without necessarily have to bring home the highest peak or the most technical via ferrata.

These pale rocks are the reason in which every Saturday morning I decide to wake up from my bed and travel for hundred kilometres. I have a special bond with the Catenaccio because is the first group of the dolomites in which my parents brought me when I was a child. Whereby I took my first cable car, I slept in my first refuge at hight altitude, I discovered what the vie ferrate were and made my fist peak above 9842.52 foot.

Arrival until the fountain where is located near the Garrdeccia refuge to freshen up in this summer warm day and I continue with a long climb until Presuss Vajolet refuge, where I decide to stop and eat a chocolate bar. I enjoy the wonderful amphitheatre with the most famous towers of the Dolomites and I close my eyes for a moment in order to recover the energy to face the most challenging part of the climb of todays day.

I returned to the kingdom of King Laurin to reach again the peak that the first time had fascinated me so much. I pass to greet Sergio at the refuge Passo Principe for lunch and then I head towards the via ferrata to the Catenaccio di Antermoia. I am alone, in the belly of the Dolomites, who accompany  me on this wonderful way between exposed ledges and small walls to overcome. Is not a difficult via Ferrata even less technical but it offers a view on the crane truly breathtaking. At one point I start seeing the cross and I know that shortly I will have to walk the ridge that will take me to the summit. The same ridge that years ago had made me frightened for the (exposition) and now I look with a different eye, that of a person that between this peaks  by now had made her bones and is well aware how to behave respecting the place in which is located but mainly himself.

I arrive just before sunset at the cross of peak and what my eyes see in this moment cannot be describable in words. The pile of clouds that accompanied me during the climb via ferrata finally leaves the space at the sunset that I desired to see from up there. The colours are getting brighter, despite the altitude the sun can warm up the hart and clear your mind of all thoughts . When you get at the top, the problems and anxieties of everyday’s life fade away, because up here everything that is important becomes so small to no longer exist.

At this moment I could get off the refuge for a hot meal and a comfortable bed but this time I took a different decision. I chose this time to remain and spend the night here in the summit to live the experience more completed.

I prepare my bed position with the bivouac bag, the mat and sleeping bag, I drink a herbal tea to warm me up and I get under the covers with the last lights of the dusk. I am terribly tired and as a result I can fall asleep immediately, but by 2 a.m. a gust of quite strong wind wake me up. I do not understand if I am still dreaming because when I open my eyes above me I see million stars running long a white strip, when I realise it is the milky way well distinguishable to the naked eye. I realise that I am awake in the middle on the night at 9842.52 foot on one of my favourites peak without anybody around. This type of adventures make me feel alive because they enable me to have a relation more pure and unspoiled with the nature that surround me.

The alarm rings, it is 5 a.m. and the first lights of the sun start to color the highest peaks, I have never experienced a performance like this in my entire life. Is truly difficult to describe in words such a strong emotion, certain things you cannot explain them, you have to live them to fully to understand it. I turn the gaze one last time towards the cross in the peak smiling because now I can tell to have truly conquered it, after all you learn to know a mountain when you sleep on it.

Former professional snowboarder, he has traveled the world always looking for snow and mountains to conquer, now he travels the world to help the guys of the Italian national snowboard team to realize their secret dream, becoming true snowboard pros. In his free time, on the other hand, he lives 100% immersed in nature with his passions, away from chaos and rush.

How much lucky do you feel to live and work in a world that you are passionate about?

I feel really lucky! Being able to turn my passion into a job is a crazy goal and a wonderful feeling: I always love to go to work.

You are very passionate about many outdoor activities such as mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking but also about nature photography. Where did these passions come from and how did they develop?

Sport has always been a fundamental aspect for me, as well as the many activities I practice outdoors. Over time, together with snowboarding, I began to cultivate other outdoor passions, such as fly fishing: a passion that I developed while fishing in the sea as a child with my grandfather and my parents.

Among other outdoor sports, I like downhill mountain biking. In fact, I have always been passionate about bikes, whether they are on regular or motorized ones. In recent years I have fallen in love with photography, especially nature/wildlife photography. This passion led me to spend my days in the mountains and in the woods looking for animals to shoot, sometimes even spending several hours with no results at all. Although I’ve never been interested in looking for a job as a photographer, I had some requests for prints of my shots and project proposals. One of the biggest jobs I’ve done involved the advertising campaign for a line of latest generation phones: I must say it was a super positive experience! I also recently won a photo contest related to snowboarding, so I feel very satisfied.

You live the mountains to the fullest, what do you personally do to fight climate change?

I have a lot of respect for animals and nature, in fact I use the bike as much as possible, but we all should do much more, starting from me.

How important is for someone who works and lives constantly outdoors to be well equipped with clothing? What advice would you give in order to fight cold?

Certainly clothing is an essential aspect to better enjoy the outdoors, whether on the snow or on a bike. Even for disciplines such as fly fishing, hiking and photography it is mandatory to have the right equipment, because there are often many hours of waiting and there is not always a mild climate. Dressing in layers with quality materials is very useful to enjoy the day but also to stay safe: the weather can change suddenly in high mountains and not being prepared in terms of clothing can be quite dangerous.

Where are you traveling next?

I’ve just got back from a month of training in Saas Fee in Switzerland, so now I would like to spend some time with my family. Soon I’ll be traveling together with the national team to Stubai, Austria, a great cold awaits us, but also very beautiful mountains.

One last thing, why people call you Aie The Tiger?

(Laughs) This nickname has persisted for over 20 years and I assume both for the ability I had on the snowboard… but also for my personality!

Mountaineer based in Stockholm, Sweden, Elin Skyttedal loves nature and outdoor sports. Her biggest passion is climbing at high altitude and, in 2019, she went to Nepal and climbed the technical mountain Cholatse 6440m becoming the first Swedish woman to stand on the summit.

Nowadays Elin spends a lot of time at her second home in Chamonix and she is working hard on becoming a stronger climber. She has some cool high plans for the future…

Paralympic Snowboarder

James has been a keen skateboarder from a young age and first tried snowboarding while on holiday with friends in Bulgaria in 2010. In 2018 James became the first Snowboarder to represent Great Britain at a Paralympic Games and recently became the No.1 Para Snowboarder in the World when he won the 2020/21 World Cup tour.

Based in Morzine, France, James is a huge fan of the outdoors making the most of mountain life, the activities on offer and is always up for an adventure.

3 Reasons Why You Love Nature

I love being out in nature and especially the mountains. In the winter, getting out on my snowboard and exploring the mountains with friends, you don’t think about anything else apart from what you’re doing in that moment and I love that.

I also love the mountains in the summer hiking and road cycling. Just getting out into nature is really calming for me and I love the challenge.

Finally, I am super lucky to snowboard for work. I love how adaptable you have to be every day as you never know what you’re going to get with nature. There are so many things that are constantly changing but the two biggest are snow conditions and weather conditions.

Digital creator in love with the mountains Patrizia Ambrosi, who has an Austrian mother and a Trentino father, was formerly a competitive swimmer. Swimming taught her awareness of her body and the benefits of physical training. Once she left competing to concentrate on her studies, she could finally satisfy her curiosity by experimenting with many other sports. Her favourite activities include walks and trekking in the summer, as well as skiing and snowboarding in the winter… and, of course, all water sports. And then, there are yoga and jogging when she is in town. Her love for the mountains and for outdoor activities began in her childhood, during summers spent at her grandparents’ home in Austria or in Trentino with her parents. Today, through photography and her Instagram profile, she tries to show how the mountains and nature are able to convey emotions and sensations.

Athlete and coach, co-founder of TRM – Trail Running Movement 

Marketing director for multinational companies, wife and mother, Cristina Tasselli is still the only Italian athlete to have covered 900 km in the mountains in a single stage race. 

In 2016, together with Marco Mori, she brought Italy to the podium of Transpyrenea, the toughest non-stop race in the world, organized on the border between France and Spain, ranking as 3rd woman overall and 1st Italian, challenging the best champions from five continents, 350 athletes, experts in mountain or desert running, only 65 of which finished the competition. 

Born in Italy, but living in Africa for many years with her family, she has practiced various sports at a competitive level, including swimming, horse riding and shooting, before dedicating herself exclusively to middle distance competitive athletics.

In the 1980s, she moved to marathons and ultra marathons on the road and finally dedicated herself full time to Ultra and Endurance Trail races for which she medaled internationally numerous times, in the over 100K: Cro Magnon Relais 120K; AVP501 500K; Montsec Ultra Trail 110K (Spain); Trail Du Cro 115K (France); The Abbots Way 125K (Italy); Transcanaria 360 ° 270K (Spain); Innsbruck Alpine Trail 100K (Austria); Peneda Gerez (Portugal) 280K; Adamello Ultra Trail 180K (Italy). 

She achieved the CONI Certification as Athletic Trainer with specialization in Nutrition and Integration in Sport and left track and field athletics to devote herself to Ultra Trails.  

Since 2014, she has been President and executive of sports companies and groups, including TRM – Trail Running Movement and Digital Sport 360, she has been training Elite Trail Running athletes, and she has authored articles on trail running in Italian, English and Spanish. 

"To be able to face the challenge of covering 900 km, with a 5kg backpack, resting only a few hours a day, took years of training, with one entirely dedicated to this. We have performed an exhaustive search for the best super-resistant and lightweight materials for both clothing and equipment."

She is a trail instructor with a SNAQ CONI-accredited certification and track and field instructor with a FIDAL CONI-accredited certification obtained in December 2019.

 

Since 2018, she has continuously carried out the activity of trail and athletics instructor. Together with her husband Paolo Pajaro, ultratrailer, 5 times finisher of the Tor des Geants and instructor with a SNAQ CONI-accredited certification, she founded Trailored4you, organizing resident and itinerant courses and trail camps in Valle d’Aosta. She is a coach for TOR Academy.
